Three toddlers taken to hospital after falling into neighbor

Legal News for Florida Personal Injury Attorneys. Three toddlers taken to hospital after falling into neighbor’s pool.

One toddler in critical condition after three fall into dirty pool, Delray Beach Police Department investigates.

Delray Beach, FL—Three children were hospitalized after a near-drowning incident in which they fell into a neighbor’s dirty pool on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, reports the Sun-Sentinel. It was allegedly unknown whether an adult was supervising the children before the accident.

A boy and girl, both 2, as well as another boy, 3, whose names have not been released by officials, were visiting a family friend, Manette Joseph, when the 5:30 p.m. incident occurred. The toddlers reportedly wandered into a neighbor’s backyard, subsequently falling into the murky pool water. The children had allegedly been warned to steer clear of a different pool earlier in the day by another neighbor. This neighbor, Matilda Corona, was the mother-in-law of Priscilla Dawson, CPR certified since 2003, whose husband notified her of the horrifying accident located in the 3000 block of Dorson Way. Dawson reportedly responded to the neighbors’ backyard and performed CPR on the toddlers, noting that one of the unconscious children spit out muddy pool water after being resuscitated. According to information provided by sources, there was no screen surrounding the pool.

Emergency medical services (EMS) teams responded to the scene to transport the children to Bethesda Memorial Hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. According to an official from the Delray Beach Fire-Rescue Department, two of the children were reported in stable condition, whereas another was listed in critical condition late Tuesday. The Fire-Rescue dive team also came to the scene of the incident to make sure there were no other children in the murky pool water. The Delray Beach Police Department investigates.
