A Florida maintenance worker was the victim of a fatal traffic accident December 9, 2009.

Tampa, FL— A Polk County maintenance worker was fatally injured in an unfortunate traffic accident in Lake Hamilton around 11:02 Wednesday morning, December 9, 2009. Jimmy P. Justice, 59, a United States Air Force veteran who was employed as the equipment operator in the roadway maintenance division was allegedly working on the shoulder of Hatchineha Road when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel. It was reported by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office that the driver swerved off the roadway for unknown reasons and struck Justice, killing him on impact. Another maintenance worker was clipped by the vehicle but only sustained minor injuries, which were treated by emergency medical services (EMS) on the scene. The Polk County Sheriffs Office continues investigating the cause of this fatal traffic accident.

In a study conducted by Transportation for America (TFA), Tampa was noted for being the second most dangerous metropolitan area in the nation for pedestrians and to this day, traffic accidents in Tampa are as prevalent as ever. According to reports by the Tampa Tribune, three separate pedestrian-traffic accidents occurred on both Monday and Tuesday night, leaving 2 individuals in critical condition, 1 fatally injured, and 1 victim who’s injuries went unannounced. Two of these incidents involved pedestrians who were crossing the road using electric wheelchairs.
