Florida motorcycle accident attorneys alert- Florida motorcycle crash on Interstate 75 resulted in one death.

Fort Lauderdale, FL– Delray Beach resident, Michael R. Smith was fatally injured in a fiery motorcycle crash around 11 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2009. Police officials reported that the motorcyclist was heading east on Interstate 75 near Weston when the tragic motorcycle accident took place. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Smith was driving on I-75 near Indian Trace on his 2008 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle, when he hit the back of a box truck heading in the same direction. According to authorities, Augustin Alba, the 44-year-old Miami based truck driver, and passenger Jose Peña, 47, were not injured in the crash. However, upon impact, Smith’s motorcycle burst into flames as he was ejected from the bike.

Witnesses of this fatal motorcycle/truck collision allegedly claim that Smith was traveling at a particularly fast speed, as reported by CBS news. Florida Highway Patrol investigators are currently in the process of figuring out what the cause of this crash may have been.

According to a list of traffic crash statistics from 2004, provided by the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles (http://www.flhsmv.gov), there was a total of 7,367 motorcycle crashes that year; 6,558 of those crashes resulted in injury and 388 resulted in death.
