Oregon asbestos company fined for multiple violations

Able Contractors, an Oregon asbestos abatement company, was fined $30,409 for violating numerous asbestos removal laws again.

Oregon mesothelioma cancer lawyer-Oregon Department of Environmental Quality fines asbestos abatement contractor violating friable asbestos removal laws again.

Portland, OR–An Oregon asbestos abatement company was cited by the State of Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for numerous violations of state and federal laws involving toxic asbestos fibers. The Oregon DEQ issued $30,409 in penalties to Able Contractors, Inc., an asbestos abatement company since 1999, for violating multiple laws during a friable asbestos abatement project at a retirement facility in Newberg, Oregon.

The Oregon DEQ issued a New Release on September 29, 2009, on their website http://www.deq.state.or.us revealing the specific violations the asbestos abatement contractor violated during the Newberg retirement facility project. The violations were determined to have occurred before, during, and after the project and are as follows:

-Failed to submit completed friable asbestos abatement project notification
-Failed to remove all visible asbestos-containing material before the final air clearance sampling tests
-Removed containment form the retirement facility project before receiving final air clearance sampling
-Failed to provide the DEQ with quarterly summary reports for all asbestos abatement projects

Asbestos fibers are a serious respiratory hazard and are proven to be toxic and even fatal. When workers, laborers, residents, and consumers are exposed to asbestos containing materials the risk for illness, injury, and fatal disease is high. There is no known safe level of exposure to asbestos and it poses a health hazard which causes cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis. According to Oregon regulators, this is the third penalty Able Contractors has received by the DEQ since 2001. An asbestos abatement contractor is licensed and educated on federal and state laws regarding friable asbestos demolition and removal. The sole reason an asbestos abatement company exists is so expert professionals, who are trained and educated in handling the toxic and lethal material, contain and remove the asbestos. The primary purpose is to eliminate primary and secondary exposure of the friable substance to humans, animals, and the environment. When an asbestos abatement company, like Able Contractors, violates standard asbestos removal laws the damages and injuries can be severe. Contacting an Oregon personal injury lawyer experienced in asbestos and mesothelioma cancer claims may help you recover.
