Phoenix, AZ—A baby was tragically killed, while his mother was pushing him a stroller at the Westwind Prep Academy. The driver of a SUV reportedly did not see the mother pushing the baby in the stroller when she struck them. The fatal accident happened on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the Westwind Prep Academy on 19th and Northern avenues, as reported by KPHO.

According to Phoenix police officials, The driver of the SUV, Leticia Macias, 41, reportedly just dropped off her son at school, when she was pulling out of the school driveway and did not see, Clayda Lozoya, 27, walking down the sidewalk with her 4-year-old and 7-month-old children. Police stated Macias then ran over the stroller, which was occupied with the 7-month-old child, and killed the baby on impact. Lozoya and her 4-year-old son were also injured in the crash and were transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained in the wreck. The driver was uninjured, but was reportedly extremely devastated. Phoenix police officials stated Lozoya would not be charged in connection with the fatal pedestrian crash. The incident has been classified by police as strictly an accident.
