Washington, D.C.– A woman was seriously injured after a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metrobus hit her in Northwest Washington. The woman was struck while she was jogging on Connecticut Avenue before work on Thursday, September 3, 2009, around 8:30 a.m., as reported by The Washington Post.

A House staffer identified as, Amanda Mahnke, 30, was jogging north on Connecticut Avenue as the WMATA Metrobus was traveling east on Florida Avenue. The bus reportedly hit her in the intersection near DuPont Circle. Mahnke sustained several fractures, including a fractured skull, and a potential traumatic brain injury (TBI). Medical officials stated Mahnke is currently listed in stable condition. Mahnke is reportedly the communications director for Representative Rick Larsen (D-Wash.). The driver of the Metrobus was also transported by EMS crews to a local hospital for an evaluation after the driver complained of having trouble breathing, and experienced symptoms of an anxiety attack.
