Whatcom County, WA–The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) http://www.epa.gov recently determined there is naturally occurring asbestos free flowing in Washington’s Sumas River. Apparently, the hillside above Swift Creek dumped large amounts of the asbestos into the riverbed during the January 2009 floods, as reported by KOMONews. The flooding washed asbestos out of the riverbed into the Sumas River which flows to Canada.
