Helicopter crashes in Northern Territory and pilot saves victim from death

Helicopter crash pilot saves victim from crocs and death in Australia’s Northern Territory.

West Palm Beach, FL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–A heroic helicopter pilot saved his passenger’s life when their helicopter crashed into crocodile-infested mudflats on Sunday night. The pilot reportedly dragged his friend to safety, and buried him neck deep in beach sand to insulate him against hypothermia in Australia’s Northern Territory, as reported by CNN.

The men, who are both in their 50’s, are friends who were coming home from a camping trip on a remote beach about eighty miles from the Northern Territory capital of Darwin. The two-seater helicopter, carrying the two friends, crashed in waters known for being infested with large crocodiles. The pilot claimed the pair wanted to take a closer look at the crocodiles when they dove down to see the beauty of the prehistoric crocodiles. Before the pilot knew it, he was lying upside down in the mud with the helicopter wreckage lying on top of him.

The pilot, who found his friend seriously injured, dragged him 328 feet to the safety of a main beach. The pilot buried the injured passenger neck deep in the sand to prevent hypothermia from setting in. According to Wikipedia, http://www.wikipedia.org, The temperature in Australia’s Northern Territory can dip as low as 14 °C (57 °F) in the months of June and July, which without proper shelter or dry clothes, these temperatures can easily cause hypothermia

Luckily, the pilot had a satellite phone and was able to contact rescue teams. Careflight, an air ambulance service, transported the men to a Darwin area hospital for treatment of their injuries. The passenger is reportedly in serious condition from injuries he suffered in the helicopter crash including, a traumatic brain injury (TBI), and massive chest injuries. He also suffered a fractured arm and several ribs. The pilot is recovering from his minor injuries.
