U.S. – Researchers have found that spinach extract may reduce cravings and aide in weight loss. As reported by WebProNews, the Lund University researchers found that thylakoids, which are present in the extract, stimulate satiety hormones in the human body, curbing the appetite.

Charlotte Erlanson-Albertsson, a co-author of the study and a Lund professor of physiological chemistry, is quoted in the report as stating of the findings, “Our analyses show that having a drink containing thylakoids before breakfast reduces cravings and keeps you feeling more satisfied all day.”

The researchers examined 38 women who were overweight for the study over a three-month time period. Have of the participants received a placebo while the others were given the extract.

Erlanson-Albertsson is further quoted as stating of the results, “In the study, the control group lost an average of 3.5 kg while the group that was given thylakoids lost 5 kg… The thylakoid group also found that it was easier to stick to three meals a day – and they did not experience any cravings.”
