Florida – A gun was recently seized at the Osceola County Courthouse from a man who was there for a child-custody case. As reported by The Orlando Sentinel, Luis A. Castillo was detained last Monday when the weapon was found by security officers during an X-ray check of his briefcase, according to Kissimmee police records.

Castillo reportedly told sheriff’s deputies at the courthouse that he was unaware that the loaded .45-caliber handgun was with him because he had recently switched briefcases.

The report is quoted in the report as stating, “He also stated that he did not [know] it was wrong to have a firearm inside a government building and courthouse, because it was part of his concealed weapon class… He also produced his concealed weapon permit identification.”

As noted by the Sentinel, confiscations of guns at Florida courthouses are rare occurrences.
