Auburn, AL – A person accused of shooting at a party near Auburn University and killing three individuals has turned himself in after a three-day manhunt. As reported by KSLA 12, the alleged gunman Desmonte Leonard, 22, surrendered to authorities Tuesday night purportedly, “without incident.”
Susan James, an attorney involved in the handoff to U.S. Marshals, but not retained for Leonard’s defense, is quoted in the report as stating of the surrender, “The main concern was to get him into custody without somebody trying to take him out. We were able to do that.”
As noted in the report, Leonard stands charged with capital murder on two counts and two counts of assault in the first degree.
