Savannah, GA — A worker has died following a workplace accident at a Southern Metals Recycling’s Savannah plant on Tremont Avenue on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, reported Savannahhow.com.

Fernando Aburto, 26, reportedly cut his hand while manually stripping insulation from wire at the plant. Aburto fainted at the sight of the blood, causing him to hit his head on the concrete surface.

Aburto was rushed to the hospital, where his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead.

Aburto was reportedly employed by temporary staffing firm StaffCo.

Investigations into the workplace accident are underway. Investigators with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct an investigation of its own.

An OSHA inspection of the recycling facility in May uncovered nine violations, in which five were classified as “serious.” Southern Metals Recycling was fined $15,697.
