Ridgefield Park, NJ—A collision involving a car and semi-truck occurred on Route 80 late Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, claiming the life of a Manhattan woman. The violent accident happened just before midnight and spurred police to close eastbound Route 80 for three hours, pending investigations into the fatal wreck, according to information provided by NorthJersey.com.

Reports indicated 53-year-old Alice Lee was behind the wheel of her Hyundai Sonata, traveling in the eastbound local lanes of Route 80, when she lost control of her car.

Upon doing so, the Sonata crashed into a concrete divider between the local and express lanes and then went on to slam into the end of the guardrail, a New Jersey State Police spokesperson reported.

Lee’s Sonata subsequently careened into the center lane of traffic, just as a tractor-trailer was approaching. The car and semi-truck collided, causing Lee to suffer fatal injuries on impact.

According to State Police Trooper Steven Vallejo, responding emergency personnel pronounced Lee dead in her wrecked car.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who suffered minor injuries, was to remain unidentified pending further investigations into the Ridgefield Park wreck.
