San Leandro, CA – A rollover crash on Interstate 580 killed a Hayward man on Sunday night, August 15, 2010. Police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the fatal crash that occurred around 6 p.m. on eastbound I-580 east of 164th Avenue, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that 19-year-old Timothy Ryan McDaniels was driving a 1998 Mercury Sable eastbound on I-580 when the car veered off to the left side of the road. The out-of-control car then went up an embankment, hit a pole and overturned as it came to a stop in the left median. Police officials are unsure how fast the car was traveling at the time.

McDaniels was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. McDaniel’s two passengers, identified only as Hayward men ages 21 and 26, were injured in the crash. The injured passengers were transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for treatment. The front-seat passenger, age 21, reportedly suffered an abrasion, while the back-seat passenger, age 26, sustained major head injures, even possibly a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

The crash remains under investigation, but they do believe alcohol may have been a factor in the fatal motor vehicle accident.
