Clearwater FL Motorcycle Accident: Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with SUV

Clearwater, FL—(Clearwater FL Motorcycle Accident News) A motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries after becoming involved in a violent collision with a sport utility vehicle Saturday, July 10, 2010. The fatal accident occurred along Missouri Avenue in Clearwater, Florida, according to information provided by the St. Petersburg Times.

Reports indicated 26-year-old Bobby Joseph Paonessa was traveling southbound on Missouri when his Megelli motorcycle came into the path of a northbound SUV.

It was approximately 10:30 p.m. when 27-year-old Lacy Smithson attempted to make a left turn onto Belleair Road. Upon doing so, Paonessa’s bike slammed into her SUV.

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel seemingly rushed to the scene to aid those injured in the crash. However, the Pinellas Park man sadly succumbed to his traumatic injuries at the scene. Paonessa was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of impact.

It was not specified if Smithson suffered any injuries in the SUV-motorcycle collision. Nonetheless, investigations into the deadly motorcycle wreck are expected to be underway.

According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) Encyclopedia, created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 5,387 fatal crashes involving motorcycles were reported throughout the nation in 2008.
