Washington, D.C.—A two-vehicle collision left seven people injured, when a car tried to avoid a girl who was crossing the road to get to her school bus stop. The collision happened on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 7:00 a.m. on Brinkley Road, as reported by the Washington Post.

According to police reports, a car was traveling east on Brinkley Road when the driver spotted a 14-year-old girl crossing the road to get to her bus stop. The car swerved in an attempt to avoid the girl, who was in the middle of the road, but the car hit the girl, then slammed head-on into a westbound minivan, and then hit another teenager on the opposite sidewalk. Apparently there is no designated crosswalk where the accident occurred. The driver of the car, the 14-year-old girl, the teenager on the sidewalk, and the four people in the minivan were all injured in the crash. Seven people in total were reportedly transported by emergency medical services (EMS) professionals to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The 14-year-old girl was airlifted by helicopter to Children’s National Medical Center, where she is listed in critical but stable condition. The two teenagers are reportedly students at Crossland High School.
