Although the non-fungal tokens (NFT) collectibles are very popular, the NFT has brought about a series of unique debates, one of which is censorship. The artist behind Stonetoss Comics is a series of political comics that have been censored by two very famous NFT markets-Opensea and Rarible. Stonetoss told the public on social media that the artist was worried that these NFT platforms were being used as “political censorship tools.”

2 Large NFT market accused of political censorship

In the early days of cryptocurrency, any form of censorship was abhorrent, but nowadays, censorship has slipped through the cracks.this The essence of Bitcoin Blockchain technology is touted as an “anti-censorship” tool, and non-fungible token (NFT) assets are designed to provide anti-censorship capabilities for artworks, online creations, collectibles, and virtual items. However, although the NFT market allows users to connect their wallets and buy and sell NFT assets, such as decentralized exchange (dex) platforms, unlike dex applications, portals hosting NFTs are considered centralized.Although some dex applications have Accused of centralization And so is the review.

“Improper Communism” by Stonetoss Comics.

On November 22, pseudonymous conservative cartoonist “Throwing stones,” told the public artist about the censorship issues handled on Opensea, the largest Ethereum NFT market platform. “Hello Opensea, I contacted you because I am worried that your platform will be used as a tool for political censorship. I also sent this message to your support page. My collector community wants a response,” Stonetoss Tweet. Flurks NFT de-platforms from Opensea and Rarible

Flurks NFT has seen support From the conservative cartoonist Ben Garrison, Internet funny man Ricky Berwick And comedians Sam Hyde. This weekend, the artist Stonetoss spoke with Bitcoin.com News and told our news station about some of the recent censorships in the Stonetoss NFT series.

Three random Flurks NFT. The Flurks series has a total of 5,000 derivative works of art produced by Stonetoss Comics.

“On November 20th, one of my team and I initiated the sale of 5,000 NFT artworks related to my work,” Stonetoss explained to our news station. “The project is called’Flurks’. The project is a set of generative works of art similar in style to the famous “Boring Ape” and “Cryptopunk” NFT projects. The official website of the project is Flurksnft.comThe team then sold out the entire NFT inventory in 22 minutes. “

“The project collected a total of about 420 Ethereum, [and] This is equivalent to approximately $1.8 million,” Stonetoss further emphasized. “As popular with NFTs, people immediately guessed [resale] The price of artworks in secondary markets such as Opensea.io and Rarible.com (the two largest markets in the NFT field). Of course, the shocking sell-out time is a strong signal of huge demand,” Stonetos said. The pseudonymous cartoonist added:

In about 6 hours after it was sold out, the transaction volume of Flurks NFT on Opensea exceeded 100 Ethereum. It was at that time, for reasons unknown to us, that Opensea apparently removed Flurks from their platform-preventing further sales. At some point thereafter, we also delisted from Rarible for unspecified reasons.

Stonetoss asserts that art is no longer dangerous by Dave Chappelle; tells some jokes that people don’t want to hear

Stonetoss further stated that Rarible re-listed the Flurks NFT series the next day, but the series was removed again a few hours later. The artist does not know why Rarible delisted the NFT twice, but the cartoonist suspects political censorship.

“We think that this kind of de-platformization on Opensea and Rarible is an attempt to political censorship. Because my work as a cartoonist is usually political, I have always been a regular target for those who hold different opinions to de-platform activities. In response, I have solve Those who wish to cancel the platformization have put forward many demands on my work,” said the cartoonist.

“Specifically, I refuse to hold any form of violent personal beliefs or have connections with political extremism, such as becoming a’Nazi’. I insist that my job is no more dangerous than Dave Chappelle’s; I tell jokes that people don’t want to hear. ,” the artist further commented. The cartoonist added that the artist’s team resolved these grievances through the official promotion of the platform on Twitter, and respectfully tagged the founders of Opensea and Rarible.

Although sales of the original Flurks NFT series are progressing smoothly, due to the recent de-platformization of Opensea and Rarible, sales in the secondary NFT market have stalled.

“Despite contacting their official support channels and Twitter, we did not receive a reply from Opensea or Rarible on the cause of the platformization. We speculate that the reason may be the application of the Confederate flag as a random feature to some NFT artworks in the scene. “Stonetoss told Bitcoin.com News. “As explained in the Twitter post, we also include the pride flag, the Gadsden flag, and the hammer and sickle shirt as features. We think it is obvious that in this case, joining the Confederate flag is no longer an endorsement of the Confederacy, because the hammer The sickle shirt is an endorsement of communism.” The cartoonist added:

In fact, some state governments in the United States still use the Confederate flag. It seems that Opensea and Rarible are more willing to do anything, unless the reasons for de-platformation must be addressed. Both platforms have branded their own artistic expression venues. On the official Rarible Discord channel, when pressed, a Rarible employee insisted: “We will not remove it just because of its political views.”

Stonetoss “is unwilling to let censorship not be challenged”

The artist said that the official news of Opensea and Rarible has not been sent to the cartoonist’s team, and the artist expects that this issue “will be very embarrassing for a platform that claims to be an art market.”

“Personally, I have no doubt that Flurks will enjoy a healthy secondary market, even if we have to build our own platform for it,” Stonetoss concluded. “This has been successfully completed by a project called “Cryptophunks”, which is an imitation of “Cryptopunks”. However, as a conservative political cartoonist, I am unwilling to allow this censorship system to be unchallenged. In fact, my reputation as an artist is precisely because I can operate in this kind of censorship environment.”
