The Unexpected Consequences of Being Injured in a Car Accident

Traffic crashes are a leading cause of injury in the U.S. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 2.5 million people in the country were treated at emergency rooms for motor vehicle crash injuries in 2012. An estimated 200,000 people were hospitalized. The consequences for individuals in this predicament can be far reaching.

As demonstrated by the plight of the reality star, car accident victims face several unanticipated challenges in the aftermath. Says Fort Worth car wreck attorney Amy Witherite of Eberstein Witherite LLP, “Most people think that after they have survived a serious car crash the worst is over, but for many the worst is yet to come in their long road to a full recovery.”

According to CDC “Vital Signs” data:

The Fort Worth attorney says that crash victims whose injuries require hospitalization amass significant medical expenses and may be left with impairments that hinder their ability to do activities they formerly did day to day. Case in point with Cavallari, says Witherite “a mother not being able to hold her new baby because of a car crash injury can be very hard on one emotionally.” Cavallari gave birth to a daughter two months ago.

Witherite stresses that it is important that individuals who have been involved in a serious car crash in Fort Worth and surrounding areas have a good understanding of what legal options are available to them immediately. The Fort Worth personal injury lawyer says “especially when one has been injured by another person’s reckless driving, it is critical that victims know they can pursue claims for damages in states like Texas where personal injury laws allow them to recover expenses from those at fault.”
