Irving, TX – A recent car accident between a drunk driving suspect and a police officer resulted in the officer being injured. CBSDFW.COM reported that the early morning incident occurred in the westbound lanes of Highway 114 close to O’Connor Boulevard in Irving.

The report says that the female drunk driving suspect rammed into the officer’s vehicle while he was stopped at a construction zone with his squad car warning lights flashings to alter drivers on the highway to slow down. The woman hit the squad car from behind.

The officer was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for his injuries, and had been released at the time of the report.

The woman, identified as 36-year-old Nicole Elaine Arreola of Grapevine, was subsequently arrested after being suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the accident. She has been charged with intoxication assault and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Officer James McLellan with the Irving Police Department stated of the crash to the news source “It’s a huge warning, because if it can happen to a police officer, it certainly can happen to anyone else.”
