Illinois – Four teens were arrested and charged with the distribution of child pornography after posting a graphic video on Twitter. According to CBSChicago, the teenagers whose ages range from 14 to 16, landed in serious legal trouble for posting a group sex video on the social media site.

The incident was reported to police by the mother of one of the teen girls involved. As noted in the report, laws regarding teen sexting vary from state to state. Some states consider the distribution of one’s own pornographic photos and videos as child porn if they are minors, as in the case of the teens arrested.

Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton is quoted as stating of the case, “The child pornography offense that was charged is in place for a reason, because we don’t want to accept that type of behavior as a society. It’s making a strong statement, and I think it’s important to do so, to send a message to others that kids shouldn’t be involved in this type of behavior, and hopefully this will serve as a deterrent.”

The students attend Joliet Central High School. They could receive sentences ranging from probation to being placed in a juvenile detention center up to the age of 21.

A hearing has been set regarding the case for April 13.
