California – Since the reporting of a string of criminal incidents involving exchanges arranged through Craigslist police in Florida are seeking to raise awareness about how individuals can help protect themselves when dealing with strangers over the Internet. As reported by WebProNews, counties in the state are seeking to make transactions safer with initiatives like implementing “Safe Exchange Zones.”

The Boca Raton Police Department has reportedly led the charge in bringing awareness to the issue, suggesting that the implementation of more places like police stations where buyers and sellers can safely make exchanges can help decrease incidents of related violence. Multiple counties in the state are reportedly making it a consideration.

As noted by WebProNews, since 2009 reports say that at least 48 people have been killed in incidents linked to connections made through Craigslist.
