Dallas, Texas – An immigration lawyer in Irving, Texas has been arrested after being accused of visa application forgery. As reported by The Dallas Morning News, Sherin Thawer was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations officials on Friday, February 20 while at her home in Coppell.

According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Thawer allegedly forged applications for illegal immigrants she provided legal representation for. Officials say she acted as attorney for immigrants who applied for visas for entry or residence in the United States. Thawer is stated to have submitted forged documents for law enforcement certification required of applicants who apply for a U-Visa for clients she represented from 2012 to 2014.

In July of 2013 Thawer received a one-year suspension from practicing in immigration courts due to alleged mishandling of a case.

Four disciplinary lawsuits have been filed against Thawer by the Texas State Bar in district court in Dallas County. Claims of misconduct against the attorney include a failure to communicate with clients and failing to notify them about her suspension in immigration court.

Thawer is facing multiple federal fraud charges in connection with the forgeries including conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with immigration documents, aggravated identity theft, mail fraud, and transfer or use of the means of identification of another person.
