Ina Garten, popular host of Food Network show, Barefoot Contessa, has filed a lawsuit against Contessa Chef inspired. The lawsuit claims that Contessa Chef Inspired is an almost identical copy of the Barefoot Contessa frozen food line.

The Barefoot Contessa frozen food line carries Garten’s image and is promoted by her. Although the Contessa Chef Inspired line does not include Garten’s image, Garten is suing the company behind the food line, with a claim that the company doesn’t have the licensing rights to market the line.

As reported in WebProNews, Garten’s lawsuit states that the Contessa Chef Inspired line is very similar to her line, having the same food and similar packaging.

The makers of the Contessa Chef Inspired line is OFI Imports Inc. OFI Imports Inc. bought out the company that made the Barefoot Contessa line until it went out of business.

According to WebProNews, the lawsuit states, “The continued production of products bearing the name ‘Contessa Chef Inspired’ and sold in a way that is virtually identical to ‘Barefoot Contessa’ dinners, represents clear infringement of our intellectual property rights, and the vast majority of which are the same dinners using the same recipes as the dinners previously manufactured under the terminated license.”

Last year, Garten’s food line was the top seller of cookbooks. Garten is asking for damages in the amount of all sales made without her consent and an end to the making of the Contessa Chef Inspired frozen food line.
