Mississippi – Mary Ann Mobley, who was the first woman from Mississippi to be crowned Miss America, has died. As reported by WebProNews, Mobley passed away after a battle with breast cancer at the age of 77.

Mobley pursued a film and television career after winning the title, appearing in films such as “Harum Scarum” and “Girl Happy” opposite Elvis Presley.

She was also the first woman to be voted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at the University of Mississippi. A statement released by Ole Miss is quoted as saying of her death “The University of Mississippi family is saddened by the passing of Mary Ann Mobley Collins.”

Mobley, who was married to game show host Gary Collins from 1967 until his death in 2012, is survived by their three children, a sister, and two grandsons.
