New York – The NFL has begun performing HGH testing three years after making a tentative agreement to conduct the tests. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the league and the NFL players association agreed on a new policy last month following a delay in beginning the testing due to initial reservations about the procedures involved.

In accordance with the terms, a reported 950 tests are expected to be conducted outside of the offseason. During the offseason 385 human growth hormone tests will be performed. Every week players from eight teams will be randomly selected for testing.

NFLPA President Eric Winston is quoted as stating of the policy in a letter to members of the union, “For the first time in the history of the NFL, our new collectively bargained policies usher in a neutral arbitration process for appeals of positive drug tests.”
