New York – Police searched the New York apartment of Sanford Rubenstein, a friend of activist and radio and talk show host Al Sharpton, who has been accused of rape, after the high-powered attorney failed to incriminate himself during an effort to have him secretly recorded. As reported by the New York Post, investigators searched Sharpton’s penthouse on East 64th Street for over an hour seeking evidence in the case.

Rubenstein, has been accused of raping a woman after both of them attended a birthday party for Sharpton. The woman reported to authorities that she had passed out at Rubenstein’s apartment and awoke to find that she was being violated.

Rubenstein’s accuser placed a call to him that investigators had her secretly record, but no incriminating evidence was produced. Sources say investigators have limited evidence for the case.

Sharpton is quoted as stating of the matter, “I don’t care how close we are. If he’s wrong, he’s wrong. If he’s right, we’ll see.”
