Security cameras to be installed on school buses after alleged assault

North Carolina – Durham Public Schools will reportedly install security cameras on its school buses following reports of an alleged sexual assault taking place. As reported by WNCN, Durham police and the school system are investigating the assault and another one that was stated to have occurred on the same W.G. Pearson Magnet Elementary School bus.

Superintendent Bert L’Homme announced plans to install the cameras in a press conference held Thursday.

L’Homme is quoted by WNCN as stating, “It is no longer acceptable for any bus to go without this added layer of security… We are carefully determining which students were involved and what truly happened.”

Marie Lang, an attorney representing the family of one of the reported victims, is further quoted as stating of the matter, “It’s concerning, not only to parents, but to the whole community… We are trying to find out is what happened and why this incident was allowed to occur.”
