Louisiana Senator says “sloppy bookkeeping” caused travel expense mistakes

Louisiana – Following accusations that she billed taxpayers for campaign travel expenses, Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu has released an 11-page report detailing her travel expenses. As reported by Fox News, Landrieu has attributed the questionable expenses linked a complaint filed against her to “sloppy bookkeeping.”

The report, which details expenses dating as far back as 2002, shows expenses for a reported 104 flights. Landrieu repaid $34,000 to the Treasury prior to releasing the report.

Landrieu, who is a three-term senator, apologized for the errors on Friday and stated that new procedures had been put into place earlier this month.

The senator is quoted as stating of the issue, “I take full responsibility… They should have never happened, and I apologize for this. A new system has been established that has been successfully used by a number of Senate offices to provide a safeguard from this happening in the future.”
