Iraq – A top aide to ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was reportedly killed in a U.S. airstrike on Mosul. As reported by WebProNews, the Iraq Defense Ministry confirmed the death of the aid on Thursday, following earlier claims by Turkish and Kurdish media reports that it was Baghdadi that had been killed.

The U.S. military has denied claims that Baghdadi was killed in the attack. As noted in the report, an official statement has yet to be released by the U.S. regarding the attack; however, a spokesperson quoted in a report by NBC News stated that the three officials killed were not specific targets in the attack.

As further noted in the report, the ISIS organization recently beheaded American-Israeli journalist Steven Sotloff, who was kidnapped late last year by Syrian forces.

Two other ISIS officials also reportedly died during the airstrike.
