Washington – Medicare has announced that prescription drug premiums are set to increase next year. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the increase will mark the second year in a row that rates have been raised.

According to officials, the average monthly drug premium for Medicare will increase to $32. As noted in the report, news about the $1 per month increase has surfaced, as fears about how higher priced medications will affect beneficiaries in the future continue to increase.

As further noted by the AP, consumer advocates say that those who are unsatisfied with their rates can look for better deals for plans during open enrollment periods, which this year will be from Oct. 15 to December 7.
