Washington – Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch citizen convicted in the murder of a woman years after being named a prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway has married his girlfriend while in prison. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Van der Sloot, 26, and Leidy Figueroa, 24, married in a private ceremony at a maximum-security prison where he is serving a 28-year sentence for the death of 21-year-old Stephany Flores, who was killed in 2011.

Van der Sloot, who wore a tailored suit his mother sent him, is quoted as stating to the bride, “’I want to marry you again,” after his prison release. John Barrera, officiated the wedding as mayor of the city of Ancon, the location of the prison. Figueroa is 7 months pregnant with Van der Sloot’s child.

Van der Sloot is expected to be extradited to the United States to face fraud and extortion charges after he is released from prison in 2038.
