Pittsburgh – A retired police officer who pleaded guilty in a fatal hit-and-run case has been sentenced to 1 to 2 years in prison. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), former Allegheny County police officer Timothy Tatters Sr., 66, struck and killed 56-year-old Lorraine Wilkes, with his Jeep Cherokee on January 16, 2013. He made the claim to investigators that he believe he had hit a dog.

Tatters pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury and careless driving in March prior to being sentenced on June 2. As noted by the AP, he acknowledged that he had been drinking prior to the accident.

Eight years probation was also ordered for Tatters by Common Pleas Judge Joseph Williams following his release from prison.
