Florida – A reported 50 people suspected of Medicare fraud have been arrested in connection with a two-day sting operation in South Florida. As reported by the Miami Herald, the suspects were charged with attempting to steal an estimated $66 million from the program.

As noted in the report, a majority of those arrested were patient recruiters who allegedly collected thousands of dollars in bribes for supplying healthcare agencies, home health agencies, and other entities with Medicare beneficiaries.

Miami’s FBI special agent in charge, George Piro, is quoted as stating of those arrested in the operation, “They were trusted by patients with their well-being; instead, these medical professionals broke the law for financial gain.
