Massachusetts – Attorneys for Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev say statements he made following his arrest should be tossed out. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Tsaraev’s lawyers say he was not told his rights while being questioned in a hospital room for 36 hours. The attorneys stated in filings Wednesday that federal agents began questioning him 20 hours after his arrival at a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

The defense attorneys are quoted as stating in the filings, “Agents made clear by word and deed that they would not allow him to see a lawyer until they had finished questioning him.”

Tsaraev’s attorneys also requested that the decision to target the event not be a factor in determining punishment for their client in the event that he is convicted.

Tsaraev has been accused, along with his now deceased brother, of killing three people and injuring over 200 others by planting bombs near the finish line at the marathon last year.
