New York City – An investigator has stated that several dead cats found hanging from trees in plastic bags had sustained various blows to the head over the course of a year. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Ernest Lungaro, director of enforcement at the Westchester County SPCA stated that an examination of the animals showed blunt trauma to their skulls.

Lungaro is quoted as stating of the findings, “Pretty disturbing, smashing their heads in and displaying them like that… We have found, in the past, cases where cats were poisoned, but we’ve never seen anything where they’re killing them this violently.”

Some of the cats were stated to be skeletons and others killed only within days of being found. Approximately 25 cats had been found hanging after being discovered by a public works crew.

Investigators are still working to determine who carried out the killings. Alley Cat Allies, a Maryland based organization that supports neutering programs for feral cats, has offered a $750 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
