North Carolina – A high school senior says that she was kicked out of her prom because she decided to wear pants. As reported by WBTV, Shafer Rupard, who attends Cherryville High School, said a teacher approached her and asked her to leave because she had an issue with her attire.

Rupard is quoted in the report as stating of the incident, “The teacher tapped me on the shoulder and said she had a problem with what I was wearing… I thought it was because of the hat or the leather jacket and I was like well I’ll take those off and she was like no, it’s the pants.”

Shawn McQuaige, Rupard’s mother, says she subsequently approached school officials about her daughter’s dismissal.

McQuaige is quoted as stating, “We looked in the student code of conduct book and there isn’t a dress code at all.”

After having this verified by the school principal, McQuaige says she has not yet received a response to an email she sent to the principal or an apology.
