California – A Sacramento bound flight was diverted after a passenger made an attempt to open a door mid-air. As reported by Reuters, the Southwest Airlines plane was rerouted to Nebraska due to the incident.

Monique Lawler, another passenger on the plane, is quoted by KABC-TV in California, as stating of the incident, “Some gentleman just decided that he wanted us to visit the Lord today, and decided to open up the back hatch of Southwest Airlines flight while we were already up in the air.”

The passenger, identified as Joshua Carl Lee Suggs, reportedly shoved past a flight attendant in trying to open a rear cabin door. Suggs was wrestled by passengers into submission prior to Omaha Airport Authority Police taking him into custody without further incident.

Southwest Airlines subsequently released a statement saying passengers and crew members arrived in Sacramento safely, approximately two hours after they were scheduled to arrive.
