Fort Lauderdale – Federal authorities say a cruise ship worker admitted to the rape of a passenger as well as trying to throw her overboard. As reported by the Sun Sentinel, authorities stated Tuesday that the worker claimed the assault, which occurred on Valentine’s Day, was an act of revenge.

The attack occurred on the MS Nieuw Amsterdam according to court documents. Ketut Pujayasa, 28, was arrested when the ship returned to Fort Lauderdale the Sunday following its departure from Port Everglades on Feb. 9.

FBI agents wrote in their report that Pujayasa stated that the woman said, “Wait a minute, son of a bitch!” when he knocked on her door to deliver breakfast, which motivated the assault.

FBI Special Agent David Nunez is quoted as writing, “Pujayasa stated that the passenger’s comment of ‘son of a bitch’ was offensive to himself and his parents. He was angry and upset the rest of the day.”

Pujayasa was detained on the ship after telling his roommate to contact ship security regarding the incident. He has been terminated from his job with Holland America Line.

The company is quoted as releasing the statement regarding the matter, “We continue to work closely with authorities to understand how this incident occurred and what additional actions we can take to help ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.”
