Colorado – Two skiers who were reportedly swept away in a Colorado avalanche have been confirmed dead. As reported by Reuters, the fatalities were confirmed by the Sheriff’s Office in Lake County on Sunday following the occurrence on Saturday afternoon.

The avalanche was stated to have occurred near Independence Pass, over 100 miles southwest of Denver. Susan Matthews, spokeswoman for the Lake County Office of Emergency Management, said the location was an area with treacherous and steep conditions.

Matthews is quoted as stating, β€œThe skiers were equipped with avalanche beacons which assisted search and rescue crews in locating them.”

Five other skiers were also swept away in the slide. Two were uninjured and three sustained injuries.
