San Diego – A woman accused of escaping prison 37 years ago is fighting extradition to Michigan. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the attorney for the woman referred to her as Jaime Lewis in court on Thursday saying she would not affirm her to be Judy Lynn Hayman.

According to Michigan authorities, Hayman escaped from a Ypsilanti prison in 1977 after being sentenced for attempting to steal from a Detroit area store. She was sentenced to 18-24 months, and had reportedly served 8 months of her time.

Defense attorney Lisa Damiani is quoted by the AP as stating, “We are planning on having an identity hearing and setting a court date for that to look into this and see whether this is a legal extradition.”

The Michigan Parole Board will decide how long Hayman may be required to remain in prison if she is extradited.
