Cleveland – Police were searching Monday for a gunman following a shooting in Cleveland that left a 5-year-old girl dead. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), authorities said the gunman was still at large on Monday after the shooting on Sunday that also wounded the mother of the young girl.

The incident reportedly occurred on Cleveland’s west side. According to police, a man in a green SUV began shooting after pulling up to the vehicle 33-year-old Noni Brooks and her daughter Jermani Brooks were in. He then fled.

The family of the victims released a statement urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The statement is quoted as saying, “The family would like privacy at this time during the mourning and loss of a beautiful child, Jermani Brooks, whose life was taken at such a young age… Please keep the family in your prayers for the recovery of her mother, Noni Brooks. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the person of interest PLEASE come forward.”
