NJ Transit Bus, Van Collide on Garden State Parkway; 1 Dead, 4 Seriously Injured

Saddle Brook, N.J.—An NJ Transit bus and a church van collided on the Garden State Parkway, killing one person and critically injuring four others. The fatal accident occurred on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, around 7:30 p.m. at exit 159 southbound, reports CBS New York.

According to officials, NJ Transit bus No. 8982 was en rout to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan when a Ford Econoline van allegedly veered into the left lane and collided with the bus.

The impact caused the van to overturn and slide down the highway on its roof.

The van had 23 people from Newark’s Ministerios Bethel International Church on board.

One passenger of the van was killed and four other passengers were critically injured.

The bus was empty at the time, as it had just finished its route.

Investigations into the crash are underway and its unknown if anyone has been charged at this time.
