Michigan – The father of a missing Michigan baby has been charged with murder two years after the baby’s disappearance. As reported by The Christian Science Monitor, police say they have new evidence in the case involving the disappearance of Katherine Phillips, who was last seen when she was about 4 ½ months old.

Attorney General Bill Schuette is quoted in the report as stating that filing the murder charge against Sean Phillips “moves us one step closer to securing justice for Baby Kate.” He is further quoted as stating at a news conference, “new evidence has been discovered which supports a murder charge in this case.”

Phillips, 23, was convicted of unlawful imprisonment last year in the child’s disappearance and was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison.

An open murder charge has been filed against Phillips, which means both first and second-degree murder can be considered by a jury in the case.
