Beijing – A surgeon in China has placed a man’s newly constructed nose on his forehead. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Surgeon Guo Zhihui at Fujian Medical University Union Hospital in China’s southeastern province of Fujian constructed the 22-year-old man’s new nose out of rib cartilage and implanted on his forehead in preparation for transplant surgery.

The nostril of the man’s new nose faces upward in a diagonal position on his forehead. Images of the patient have been circulating in Chinese media.

Zhihui is quoted by the AP as stating, “We were just interested in helping the man and did not expect it would stir up this much attention.”

This is reportedly the first known case of a surgeon building the new nose of a patient on their forehead.

The man’s nose was damaged in an accident in 2012.
