Romania – A Romanian court has ruled that a bill that allows stray dogs to be euthanized is legal. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the ruling by the constitutional court was made Wednesday sparking some animal rights advocates to protest the decision outside Parliament.

Some of the protestors reportedly yelled, “Criminal court!… May you have the same fate as the dogs!” as they blew whistles while demonstrating.

As noted by the AP, the government drafted the bill after a 4-year-old was mauled to death in Bucharest.

The ruling was criticized by the animal welfare group Vier Pfoten, which purported it ignored the European Commission’s appeal to Romania to protect animal rights.
