Washington – The FBI is seeking help from the public in determining the motive for a former Navy reservist carrying out a mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday. As reported by Yahoo! News, the suspect killed at least 12 people prior to police fatally shooting him. Another possible suspect is now being sought.

The suspected gunman has been identified by authorities as Aaron Alexis, 34. Valerie Parlave, the FBI’s assistant director-in-charge, is quoted in the report as stating in regarding a request by the FBI that individuals with tips related to the shooter contact the bureau, “This investigation is still very active… No piece of information is too small.”

President Barack Obama is quoted as stating of the incident prior to a scheduled speech at the White House, “These are men and women who were going to work, doing their job, protecting all of us… We will do everything in our power to make sure that whoever carried out this cowardly act is held responsible. I want the investigation to be seamless.”
