Washington – Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee said Thursday that the attempts during a White House meeting to reach a bipartisan budget deal had been unsuccessful. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the White House expressed that the talks had been helpful; however, Corker said no common ground had been reached between the parties.

Corker is quoted by the AP as stating, “It’s pretty evident that there’s no common ground right now.”

As noted in the report, no additional meeting was scheduled as Thursday’s meeting concluded. Negotiations for taking steps to avoid a government shut down after the fiscal year ends on September 30 are ahead.
