Huntsville, Texas – The first woman to be executed in the U.S. in three years was executed in Texas on Wednesday. As reported by Reuters, Kimberly McCarthy, 52, who was convicted in the stabbing death of her elderly neighbor over a decade ago, was pronounced dead at 6:37 pm CDT at a prison in Huntsville, Texas.

McCarthy is quoted in the report as saying during her last statement, “This is not a loss, this is a win. You know where I am going. I am going home to be with Jesus, keep the faith, I love ya’ll. Thank you chaplain.”

McCarthy is stated to be the 500th person executed in the state of Texas since 1976 and the 18th person executed in the U.S. this year.
