Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Former NFL player Chad Johnson has been released from prison after serving seven days of his 30-day sentence. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Johnson was released Monday after apologizing to a judge for slapping his lawyer on the backside in the courtroom.

Johnson is quoted by the AP as stating to Broward County Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh, “I just wanted to apologize for disrespecting the court last time… I apologize. I did have time to reflect on the mistakes I made in this courtroom.”

Johnson, who was previously on probation in connection with a domestic battery case, was sentenced to the jail term after purportedly failing to meet with his probation officer for three months in a row.
