Buenos Aires, Argentina – Argentina’s Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Chevron regarding an imposed freeze on the corporation’s assets in the country. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the high court accepted the company’s appeal to suspend the freeze placed on the Argentine assets of Chevron Corp. by Argentine judge Adrian Elkuj in a ruling in November.

The freeze was ordered following a lawsuit filed by the winners of a $19 billion judgment ordered by an Ecuadorean court over oil contamination in the Amazon rainforest.

The Supreme Court is quoted by the AP as stating in its decision, “The appealing parties have not participated in the case against Chevron Corporation (in Ecuador) and are legally distinct units.”
